It's easy to forget that the events of The Hobbit depend on a very simple item, a secret key that would open a secret door. That was Thrór's key. More than anything, Thorin Oakenshield's band of dwarves wanted to retake the Lonely Mountain from Smaug the Dragon. To do this, the dwarves needed a map, a door and a key that Thorin's grandfather Thrór had secretly made. Gandalf gives Thorin the secret key when they meet in Bilbo Baggins' house.
"Here it is!" he said, handing Thorin a key with a long shaft and intricate words made of silver. "Keep it safe!"
Engraved on the shaft of the key in Dwarven runes is the same phrase found on Thrór's map: "Five feet high the door, and three can walk abreast. TH * TH" (The TH runes are Thrór's signature ).
Details: Thrór's key is made of white, handcrafted bronze with black antiquing to give the key an aged look. The dwarven key pendant is 72.4 mm long, 25.2 mm wide and 3.7 mm thick at the thickest point and weighs 15.1 grams.
